Prometrium

Prometrium

Progesterone is a steroidal hormone secreted by both the placenta and corpus luteum of the ovary. Prometrium (progesterone) comes from plant sources and is made to be structurally identical to the progesterone produced in women’s bodies. Prometrium is manufactured by Catalent Pharma Solutions and marketed by Abbott Laboratories. As a drug, Prometrium (progesterone) has several purposes. It is used as part of contraceptives (birth control pills), in the treatment of menstrual disorders, infertility, and used in the prevention of miscarriage.

Prometrium Dosage Like most pharmaceutical drugs, the correct Prometrium dosage depends on the patient, other medical conditions, and the malady that is being treated. In other words, there is not a standard dosage for Prometrium but there are some general guidelines that you may want to be aware of.

  • Absent Periods: 400 mg taken once daily at bedtime for 10 days.
  • Post Menopausal: Often combined with estrogen and taken at 200 mg for 12 days in a row during a 28 day estrogen cycle.
  • As a general rule, Prometrium should not be used during pregnancy.

Because progestin has been measured in the milk of women who are nursing, Prometrium should be used with caution in those individuals.

To date, no studies on overdosage of Prometrium have been conducted in humans.

THIS PRODUCT CONTAINS PEANUT OIL AND SHOULD NOT BE USED IF YOU ARE ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS.
